Eye Health Benefits of Drinking Water From Our Optometrists at Lone Star Vision
Most people understand the importance of staying hydrated to their overall health. However, very few people realize the impact that staying properly hydrated can have on your ocular health. Here at Lone Star Vision in Celina and Plano, TX, our goal is to provide our patients not only with the highest level of optometry care, but the education they need to maintain their eye health.
Benefits of Drinking Water
Each time you blink, the fluid that surrounds your eye performs a “mini-flush” of your eye, getting rid of any debris and making sure your eyes stay nice and hydrated. However, without drinking enough water, your eyes can become dehydrated just as the rest of your body can. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that alcohol consumption can cause you to become dehydrated, which can lead to eye dryness and discomfort.
Tips for Staying Hydrated in Plano, Celina, and the North Texas Area
For starters, understand how much water you should be drinking on a daily basis. Generally, you should drink half your weight in water, in ounces, each day. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, then you should be drinking around 100 ounces of water to stay properly hydrated.
However, this can vary depending on your activity levels and time of year as well. During the summer in Plano, Celina, and the North Texas area, you will need to drink more water in order to keep your body (and your eyes) hydrated.
If you have a hard time making sure you’re drinking enough water, consider purchasing a large water bottle that you can fill with your daily recommended intake each day. Then, simply make it a goal to finish that bottle of water by the end of the day. If you don’t care for the bland taste of water, there are plenty of flavor additives you can try.
