Corrective Eye Surgery

Today’s corrective eye surgery procedures allow you to say good-bye to the several different types of eye glasses and contacts. Lasik surgery is the most common procedure to treat astigmatism, nearsightedness and farsightedness. During Lasik surgery, an eye doctor uses a surgical tool to create a thin flap in order to remove tissue from the cornea and reshape it for improved vision. After the laser reshapes the cornea, the flap is laid back in place. Lasik eye surgery only requires topical anesthetic drops, and there are no stitches. After surgery, you may experience some blurred vision, but this usually stops by the next day. Lasik surgery is highly effective, and most patients achieve 20/20 vision afterward. Plus, the results are permanent.

Corrective Eye Surgery

Wavefront-guided Lasik surgery is a groundbreaking vision correction surgery because it not only improves visual acuity but improves contrast sensitivity. With Wavefront technology, the eye’s ability to focus is measured, and a 3D map is created to customize treatment. It’s often used for mild to moderate nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Plus, it helps reduce night-vision disturbances.

Strabismus surgery tightens or loosens the eye muscles to realign the eyes, as in the case of lazy eye. The eye doctor surgeon uses a surgical instrument to isolate the muscle. No incisions are made. The eye muscle is sewn to the wall of the eye. Usually, general anesthesia is used for strabismus surgery.

Bladeless Lasik surgery is another option for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and corneal thickness. The laser used in bladeless Lasik operates at very high speeds and allows tissue to be targeted without damaging surrounding tissue. It takes about 10 minutes for each eye, and recovery time is several weeks.

For those with severe nearsightedness, implantable lenses may be a good alternative to laser surgery. In this vision corrective surgery, lenses are surgically placed behind the iris or in between the iris and cornea. Implantable lenses allow light to properly focus on the retina for better vision.
